Men at arms

IR 32 on the field cap

The house-rgiment of Budapest IR 32 had several badges. The better known one shows  the portrait of Empress Maria Theresia the permanent regiment owner. A less frequently seen badge is on the cap of this young infantry man. It has the shape of a coat of arms. The main motive is the regiment’s number 32 in front of the oak-leave decorated background. The top is decorated with the coat of arms of the Double Monarchy. This badge is lacquered dark blue, the color of the regiment. Other pieces were enameled to the same color. The badge was prepared by Markus Berger’s firm in Budapest. The style of the badge is typical, especially the colored regiment number which is seen on various other badges of the same firm (Honved IR 1, 10, 29, 30 for example).
