IR 53

It is the first time, when the Zagreb Home Regiment is among the entries. Its beautiful badge is decorated with the city’s coat of arms. The badge is available in silvered, painted and an enameled version. The major in the picture may be wearing a colored enamel badge on his tunic pocket.

The headquarters and battalions of the 53rd Infantry Regiment were all stationed in Zagreb, with the exception of the detached battalion, which was stationed in Foca. They were assigned to the XIII. corps as part of the 36th Division. They fought on the Eastern Front, sometimes in the 3rd and sometimes in the 7th Army, in Galicia and Bukovina.
