Kappenabzeichen on postcards

Sturmbaon 58

The 58th Division was deployed on the Italian front. Its backbone was made up of mountain-trained troops, battalions of the 4th and 5th Mountain Brigades. In 1917, the 96th Infantry Regiment has also been assigned here. The II/52 Infantry battalion was one of the standard parts of the 4th Mountain Brigade. The beautiful post card of this battalion can be seen here.

Another distinguished battalion, the III/85 Battalion, had its own badge. On this creepy badge, the snake coming out of the skull of the dead Bersaglieri is gripped by an eagle.

The two mountain brigades didn’t have badges, but the 58th Division did. More precisely, the division’s assault group. The same hand grenade throwing figure as on the Kappenabzeichen can be found on the division’s field post card.
