Men at arms

Air crew in Galicia

A recently seen photo with a cap badge. An NCO, as his cap rosette is metal. His affiliation with a flying unit is shown by the propeller and the leather flying jacket. A nice, calligraphic signature below, glasses on his nose. He could have been an educated man. Perhaps a one-year volunteer, perhaps an ensign. A young man.

On the side of his cap there is a round badge. The figure of a horseman can be made out on the badge. In essence, only one badge is possible, even though we only see outlines. This is a badge issued in memory of the fallen in Galicia. From all this, we can conclude that the photo could have been taken at one of the flying squadrons commanded on the Eastern Front. I would not dare to guess the type of aircraft, but at the back we can perhaps see a metal frame mounting a protective machine gun. In this case, it could be a two-seater aircraft intended for observation tasks, for example a Hansa-Brandenburg
