Tatarka valley, HIR 30

The 30th Honvéd Infantry Regiment of Pest County was a regiment of the famous 40th “Fokos” Division and played an important role in its major operations. Its most well-known badge, published here, follows the war path until the spring of 1916. The last of the battlefields listed on the back of the badge were Toporoutz and Rarancze, the scene of bloody battles in January 1916.

In a previous post, I also described the regiment’s 1916 battles in the Carpathians (here). In the summer of 1916, the regiment’s task was to stop Russian attacks that threatened the settlement of Kirlibaba. In the valley of the Dol Tatarka stream, the advancing Russians were pushed back. Later, the Russians nevertheless advanced on the mountains on both sides of the valley, so that they reached Kirlibaba with their artillery. The correspondence card attached to the post depicts the Dol Tatarka valley.
